Extrusion line running hot, rough surfaces, or unpredictable die swell? First® LF‑33 is a high‑performance flow dispersant for EPDM and general rubbers. Lowers Mooney viscosity, prevents scorch, reduces die swell, delivers smooth finishes – no cure interference.
  • Chemical composition: A combination of saturated fatty acids, fatty acid soap salts, and fatty acid amides
  • Characteristics: As a flow dispersant, it is particularly well-suited for mixing processes in internal mixers and can be used with both natural and synthetic rubbers, including NR, SBR, BR, NBR, EPDM, and more—especially effective with EPDM. This product helps reduce the Mooney viscosity of the compound, lowering processing temperatures during mixing and preventing premature scorching. It also enhances the processability of the rubber compound, reducing extrusion swell and resulting in smoother product surfaces. Additionally, it increases output rates for injection and extrusion processes, minimizes defects, and lowers overall production scrap rates—all without negatively impacting the curing speed or the final physical properties of the rubber compound.

  • Product Description
  • Pain point you may have experienced
Your extruder line runs hot. The compound feels stiff, the surface of the profile comes out rough or wavy, and die swell is so unpredictable that you have to scrap one out of every ten meters. When you try to speed up the line, the compound scorches before it even reaches the die. You have tried different processing aids, but they either slow down cure or leave oily residues.

    Why LF‑33 is different
First® LF‑33 is a high‑performance flow dispersant specifically designed for internal mixer and extruder processes. It works exceptionally well with EPDM, but is also highly effective in NR, SBR, BR, NBR, and other general rubbers. Instead of just lubricating, LF‑33 actively reduces the Mooney viscosity of the compound – the rubber flows easier, the internal mixer runs cooler, and the risk of premature scorch drops significantly.

What you gain on the extrusion line

Lower processing temperature – you can run the extruder faster without scorching.

Reduced die swell – profiles hold their shape, so you cut less scrap.

Smoother surface finish – no more sharkskin, wavy patterns, or rough edges.

Higher output – injection and extrusion cycles become shorter, raising throughput.

Fewer defects, lower scrap rate – less rework, more good parts per shift.

No trade‑off on cure or properties
Unlike some processing aids that delay vulcanization or soften the compound too much, LF‑33 does not affect curing speed nor harm the final physical properties – tensile strength, tear resistance, and compression set remain intact. It simply makes the compound easier to process, from mixer to extruder to press.

    Real‑world result
An EPDM weatherstrip producer was struggling with high scrap due to surface roughness and die swell. After adding First® LF‑33 at 2 phr, their extrusion line speed increased by 18%, the reject rate dropped from 5% to 1.5%, and the surface passed the OEM’s visual inspection without secondary finishing. They also noticed that the mixer cycle was shorter, saving about 12 kWh per batch.
