Product Description
Pain point you may have faced
You need the fast cure of a thiuram accelerator for injection‑molded rubber parts – seals, gaskets, or bushings. But TMTD, the most common thiuram, scorches easily during the high‑shear, high‑temperature injection process. It also tends to bloom (frost) on the surface, ruining the appearance and causing customer complaints. You have tried reducing the dosage, but then cure speed suffers.
Why TETD‑75 is different
First® TETD‑75 (tetraethylthiuram disulfide) is a super accelerator for natural and synthetic rubber. Compared to TMTD, TETD offers significantly better scorch safety – making it ideal for injection‑molding applications where compounds experience high heat and shear before filling the cavity. It is commonly used as an auxiliary accelerator for thiazole, guanidine, or aldehyde‑amine accelerators, boosting activity without compromising processing safety.
What you gain
Longer scorch time – fewer rejects from premature cure in the runner or nozzle.
Less frosting – when used in combination with TMTD, TETD dramatically reduces surface bloom.
Versatile – can function as a vulcanizing agent in sulfur‑cure systems (effective sulfur content ~8.25%).
Fast cure – maintains the rapid vulcanization speed expected from thiurams.
Real‑world result
An injection molder of NBR oil seals was using TMTD as a secondary accelerator. They experienced occasional scorch during summer runs, and the seals showed a white powder (TMTD bloom) after a few weeks in storage. They switched to a 1:1 blend of TETD‑75 with TMTD at the same total phr. Scorch safety improved by 25%, bloom disappeared completely, and cure time remained unchanged. The customer passed a visual inspection audit with zero defects.
