TMTD is a fast, efficient thiuram accelerator, but it generates nitrosamine carcinogens during vulcanization – a growing compliance risk under REACH and Germany’s TRGS 552. You have tried other alternatives, but they often scorch too quickly, or they fail to match the cure speed and crosslink density of TMTD. In specialty applications like PVC rubber or chloroprene (CR) compounds, you also need a thiuram that offers controlled delay and safe processing.
Why TBzTD‑75 is different
First® TBzTD‑75 (tetrabenzylthiuram disulfide) is a fast‑acting vulcanization accelerator and sulfur carrier for natural and synthetic rubber, designed as a direct replacement for TMTD. Crucially, no nitrosamine carcinogens are generated or released during vulcanization – fully compliant with German TRGS 552 and other nitrosamine regulations. Compared to TMTD‑75, TBzTD‑75 provides a significantly longer scorch time, giving you a wider processing safety window without sacrificing cure speed.

PVC rubber inhibitor – occasionally used to control vulcanization of PVC rubber compounds.
Delayed‑action agent for CR – when combined with ETU‑75 in mercaptan‑modified chloroprene rubber, TBzTD‑75 acts as a safe retarder, preventing premature crosslinking.

Real‑world result
A manufacturer of rubber‑to‑metal bonded parts used TMTD as a secondary accelerator. Facing an EU customer’s nitrosamine ban, they switched to First® TBzTD‑75 at the same 0.3 phr level. Scorch time increased by 35%, cure time remained virtually unchanged, and physical properties (tensile, modulus) were equal or slightly better. The customer passed the nitrosamine test with zero detection, and the bonding strength to brass remained excellent.
